REQUIREMENTS FOR FYS 04 (GENE DREAMS)
Everyone will be expected to complete the following :
- Reading assignments--come to class having read and thought about the material;
interesting and exciting discussions will follow, I promise.
- Class attendance and participation (see #1).
- Attendance at the several evening meetings listed on the syllabus. These
meetings will run the gamut from movies
(MINORITY REPORT,
GATTACA),
to theater (Anna Deavere Smith), to getting-to-know-your-college events.
- Completion of small, in-class writing assignments on readings or evening meetings.
In addition, everyone will be required to turn in the following four formal compositions:
- A reflective essay.
- A critique.
- An argument essay.
- A final, 10-page research paper.
These papers should be written (and typed) as detailed in Hacker's A Writer's Reference;
grammar and spelling rules always apply. Before it's turned in, each formal paper will
benefit from having been edited by peers (as indicated in the syllabus).
In addition, remember to take advantage of the
Pitzer Writing Center.
Finally, note
that any paper may be revised at your option. If you want to revise, hand in
both the original version (with my marks) and the revised version within 1 week of
getting the paper back. Be sure to make substantial, not just surface, improvements.
See me if you have any questions.
